Old Dominion Fast Draw (ODFD) was established in April 2008. The founding members of the club worked diligently, and we became a FULLY AFFILIATED CLUB of the Cowboy Fast Draw Association (CFDA) in June 2008.

ODFD continues to engage in Cowboy Fast Draw shooting today, just a few miles from where it all began in Franklin Co VA. We remain an affiliated CFDA club, hosting a monthly match every 4th Saturday. We welcome spectators, shooters from other clubs or those traveling, and of course, new shooters.

Cowboy Fast Draw is one of the most exciting forms of fast draw shooting you can experience. It's like drag racing, but instead, you’re using a 6-shooter. So, what exactly is a 6-shooter? In this thrilling sport, we shoot single action .45 long colt pistols, where pulling the hammer is necessary to fire the gun. While not all guns are Colts, that’s simply the type of bullet it’s designed to shoot. Importantly, we don’t use 'real' bullets; instead, we fire wax out of a modified .45 case that accommodates 209 shotgun primers, making it a more accessible, affordable and safe way to enjoy the sport.
Once positioned on the line, you’ll be 15 feet away from a 17-3/16” target with a light in the center. Once loaded and ready, you'll hear a series of commands: Shooters Ready, Shooters On the Line, Shooters Set! Within seconds, that light will illuminate! At that moment, you draw, cock the hammer, and fire! Each time you hit the target, the impact sensor will record your time. The faster shot wins that round, and it’s best 3 out of 5 shots to determine the ultimate winner.
